How much does a security guard cost in New York?
People ask how much a security guard costs per hour, per night, per day, and per month. Tristate Security Patrol publishes monthly prices for mobile patrol memberships and does not publish an hourly guard rate. This guide separates those two numbers so a Brooklyn house and a staffed lobby are not priced as if they were the same product.
The company is at 5314 16th Avenue, Suite 238, Brooklyn, NY 11204. Call 347-991-0121 and describe the address before you compare a monthly plan to a quote you got for a stationary officer.
For most standard posts, uniformed officers are scheduled within 24–48 hours. Emergency coverage is coordinated through 24/7 dispatch.
Two products people mix together.
A Community Patrol or Commercial Patrol membership buys a minimum number of documented mobile checks. The car is not parked at your door for the month. The plans page says this directly: extra passes may happen because of routing, and the service is not a continuous post. Residential plans run from $159 to $499 a month depending on how many checks per week you buy. Commercial plans run from $399 to $799 a month depending on how many checks per day you buy.
A security guard cost per hour is the price of a person assigned to a post for a shift: a lobby, a gate, a school door, an event, a fire watch, or a protective detail. That hourly or shift price is quoted. It is not on the public price card, because hours, armed or unarmed status, the borough, and supervision change it. Anyone who quotes you a single “NYC guard rate” without those facts is guessing. This site will not invent one to fill the gap.
Per month
Use the table on this page. Those are the published membership prices.
Per hour or per shift
Request a quote. Armed posts, events, schools, fire watch, and executive protection live here.
Per night
A night shift is a block of hours on a quote. A “night patrol” on a membership is a check that may fall at night, not an officer until morning.
Per day while you travel
Member Vacation Watch is $25 a day on top of the monthly plan, for one extra dedicated check.
Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Long Island, and New Jersey do not share one hourly card.
A stationary overnight in Brooklyn, a school arrival on Long Island, and an armed door in Jersey City are three schedules and, in New Jersey’s case, a different license. The monthly patrol prices can be used in the areas the plans are offered. The site does not add a borough surcharge table, and it does not claim the $159 plan is available as a manned lobby in the Bronx.
Fire watch is the clearest example of a job that should not be forced into a monthly number. An impaired sprinkler in Brooklyn can require an hourly walking patrol for as long as the system is out, under FDNY rules. A Nassau order can require a dedicated watch until the fire marshal releases it. Both are quoted from duration and area. Neither is the commercial patrol plan.
Executive protection and event security are also quoted. Guest count, vehicles, and armed status move event prices. Protective details move with hours and the number of agents. If a vendor gave you a bodyguard hourly figure, compare it to a written scope, not to the $159 plan.
What changes the quote, without a made-up rate card.
Armed versus unarmed is the largest split. New York armed officers need a pistol license, a 47-hour course, and a special registration. New Jersey armed officers need SORA armed certification and a New Jersey carry credential. That credentialing is why an armed shift is not priced like an unarmed door. The site still does not print the resulting dollar amount.
Hours and headcount are next. One unarmed officer for a school dismissal is not four officers for a hall. Supervision, a vehicle, and a fire-guard certificate add scope. Site size matters for fire watch because of the 50,000-square-foot limit per guard in the NYC impairment rules.
Alarm Response is a member add-on, not a guard hourly rate. Residential eligibility is $25 a month per property, then $35 for a standard response or $20 when an officer is already patrolling that community. Commercial eligibility is $49 a month, then $50 per response. The plans page is explicit that this does not replace 911 and that response time is not guaranteed.
Licensed officers, documented work.
Every dollar figure in the table is copied from the plans already on this website. If a plan price changes there, this guide should be updated to match. Nothing else in the security industry’s rate surveys is cited, because this page is not claiming a market average.
Founded in 2021. Address in Brooklyn. Call 347-991-0121 if you want a number for a post that is not in the table.
What is published, and what is quoted.
Read the table as a minimum-check membership, then use the quote form for everything else. Vacation Watch at $25 a day is only for members and includes one additional dedicated check. Premier residential memberships include 14 Vacation Watch days a year. Unused days do not roll over. Alarm Response fees still apply even when the Premier monthly add-on fee is included.

Answers, in plain language.
How much does a security guard cost per hour in NYC?
Tristate Security Patrol does not publish an hourly rate. Stationary guards are quoted from the site, the hours, and whether the post is armed. The published numbers are monthly patrol memberships starting at $159.
How much does a security guard cost per night or per day?
A night or a day shift is a quoted block of hours. It is not the same as a patrol plan that includes a minimum number of checks per week or per day. Member Vacation Watch, which is one extra property check on a day you are away, is $25.
How much is private security per month?
Residential Community Patrol is $159, $229, $349, or $499 a month. Commercial Patrol is $399, $599, or $799 a month. Each price is tied to a minimum number of documented checks, listed in the table.
How much does armed security cost?
Armed posts are quoted. New York and New Jersey use different firearm credentials, which is one reason there is no single armed hourly price on this site.
How much does event security or a bodyguard cost?
Both are quoted. Event price follows headcount, hours, and posts. Executive protection follows hours, agents, and travel. Neither is a patrol membership.
What is a security patrol cost if I only want a car on the block?
Start with Community Patrol. New areas activate at 10 homes unless coverage is already there. The membership is mobile. It does not place an officer at the house continuously.
